Target Practice

Yesterday I went to Target Practice: Painting Under Attack 1949-78 an exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum.

It was one of the first exhibitions I have truly enjoyed at the SAM. I intend to go back and listen to the audio tour because apparently Laurie Anderson is the narrator and I would be curious to listen to her voice along with experiencing the works for a second time. There were a number of artists from all around the world featured and I was happy to be unfamiliar with a series of them, and yet pleasantly surprised in seeing ones such as Rauschenberg's Erased De Kooning (below) in person after hearing about all the controversy.

Robert Rauschenberg's Erased De Kooning (video)

There were works by the following artists: Bruce Nauman, Lawrence Weiner, Joseph Kosuth, Daniel Buren, Andy Warhol, Lynda Benglis, Richard Jackson, Guenther Uecker, Dan Flavin, John Baldessari, Iain Baxter and many more.

Two pieces that caught my attention were by Yoko Ono, a Painting To Be Stepped On which consisted of a scrap of canvas on the floor. Painting to Hammer a Nail in which you were encouraged to hammer into the wall any piece of paper you had on your person. I took a Polaroid out the window of the SAM and applied it to the wall. Melanie even bit the edge a little leaving the imprint of her teeth on the miniature cityscape.
We watched it develop slowly.

Overwall, it was a refreshing experience here in the art world of Seattle.

I haven't posted anything lately because I have been involved in decorating and moving into my new home. I also have been looking for a job that suits me here in Seattle.

hungry.

In Seattles best kept secret nursery in Ballard they have these amazing fish that are very used to people. Their miniature obese bodies would attempt to nibble your fingers which was a sensation hard to describe.
